Staircase Design

Free stair calculator: adjust measurements and compare riser counts in the live preview.

Fits measured run

Rise review required: 350.0 mm per riser. Run fit alone does not confirm a safe staircase. Check rise, going, pitch and local requirements with a qualified practitioner before building.

What this estimate covers

Included

  • Straight-flight geometry
  • User-specified tread pieces
  • Kerf-aware stock count
  • Local project and exports

Not included

  • Landing material or framing
  • Stringers, anchors or foundations
  • Guards, handrails or fasteners
  • Code or construction approval

How to use this tool

Plan a straight staircase

Enter the finished floor-to-floor rise and the horizontal run available. Change the riser count to compare each step height and the run the stair will use; then set tread width and stock sizes.

Worked example

A 2,800 mm rise divided into 16 risers is 175 mm per rise. With 15 treads at 250 mm going, the horizontal run is 3,750 mm. Use the preview to test your own measured space.

What the estimate excludes

Stock cuts cover tread boards only. Stringers, fixings, handrails, structural support and code compliance need separate design and qualified review.
